I think I've been a spoiled runner so far. Since I started this task beginning of this year, I have been able to run in the nice, cool temps of a Florida winter--high 60s to mid 70s since I usually run at the ass-crack of dawn or at 9pm. So I have the perfect temps, little to no traffic or other interferences and usually there is a nice breeze.

Well, I woke up today and thought about the fact that April is right around the corner this week...days are getting longer and it's starting to get warmer out there. Soon that humidity is going to rise and then we shall be in hot-summer hell down here. So, how am I going to get my spoiled self out there to run in these conditions? Freeze my running clothes for an hour or so before heading outside? Carry around a battery-powered mini fan to blow on me so I don't get cranky? Hmmm, I'm going to have to do some research on this. Or I could just suck it up and deal with it. This should be interesting.

I am still going strong with the running..trying to get in at least 3-4 days in a week. My disappointment is in my distance. Can't seem to increase it as much as I would have liked by now. I know I should be happy for what I have accomplished-and I am since I've never been a distance runner and it's hard to get myself to find a rhythm to run at-but I did expect more progress by now. Guess I just have to keep plugging away at it and try not to get discouraged. At this point, I don't even want to sign up for another race until I see some better results. Maybe April will be a better month. I plan to get out for a run tonight and, with two days rest, I should be able to get some mileage in there. Here's hoping.

Yeah, It's Friday!

Woo hoo! I've been looking forward to this for days and it wasn't even a bad week. Just ready for such time off from work, I guess. Now it's time to have a cocktail and freshen up before I head out for girl's night. Mmmm...mexican food, chips and salsa and margaritas...can't wait.

No gym time for me today. I wanted to get up early this morning, had the good intentions but when that alarm went off at 4:45am I just couldn't do it. That means I'm working out extra hard tomorrow morning. My goal is to hit the gym for some cardio, weights and then, depending on my level of exhaustion, I may hit the pool for 30 minutes. Hope those margaritas go down smoothly with no pesky hangovers.

It's Thursday Already?

This week has flown by for me. Work has been pretty good, for a change. Not a lot of crazies to deal with on the phone and the fellow coworkers have been rather quiet this week. It's a nice change...must be a new moon or something.

The exercise is going pretty well this week. I ran both Monday and Tueday along with my abs and leg exercises on Mon. and arm exercises on Tuesday. I did revise the schedule a bit and took last night off. The shins were giving me a bit of trouble after 2 consecutive days of running--I'm an every-other-day only runner--and I was out shopping for some baby gifts for my friend's baby shower on Saturday, so my the time I got home, had some din-din and relaxed a bit, it was time for bed.

Tonight I want to get a little cleaning done since BJ is having a poker party tomorrow night and definitely have to get a run in, too...and get some good book reading in since I got four new books yesterday: The Virgin's Lover (Philippa Gregory), The Pillars of the Earth (Ken Follett), The Winter Rose (Jennifer Donnelly) and Monsters of Templeton (don't remember this author). Yeah, excited! I get excited about new books the way a sugar addict gets excited about Dunkin Donuts. Have a good night everyone!

Busy Bee

It's been a busy day today. Got a lot of stuff done at work, which is good since the managing attorney has been in and out of the office the past couple of weeks and there are some things only he can sign and/or okay before they leave the office so I had a nice stack of things to review with him today. That man can be such a challege to pin down sometimes; since we have two offices, he is usually back and forth throughout the day so the challenge is to catch him on one of his tours. I am either going to put bells on him or get a tracking device. Some days I swear all I do is hunt him down!

Got home and made dinner tonight, some fettucine alfredo with chicken and broccoli sauteed in garlic, lemon and pepper. Yummy, although not on the low calorie side. But I did eat pretty well the rest of the day so hopefully it balances out. After dinner I straightened up the house (didn't I just do that a couple days ago?), read my book for a half hour and took Wilson for a half hour walk. He loves his walks but he's such a bad walker and I can't seem to change that. Stubborn like his mom I guess.

So now I'm off to exercise. The good thing about writing down my exercise plan is now I feel obligated to do it...damn, I knew there was a catch!

Week 4 Goals

I've gotten a bit off track with my goals this month...lots happening, got sick for almost a week and just been feeling a little off kilter so it's time to crack the whip again.

Monday: 3 mile run/walk
Abs: 200 crunches (mix-n-match)
Legs: toning exercises

Tuesday: Gym-45 min cardio
30 min swim (freestyle, breaststroke, leg and arm exercises)

Wednesday: 3 mile run/walk
Abs: 200 crunches (mix-n-match)
Legs: toning exercises

Thursday: 45-60 minute cardio
20-30 min weights

Friday: Off

Saturday/Sunday: Swim 30 min, run/walk

I'm not going to worry about my eating plan other than keeping an eye on what types of food I'm consuming. After Easter festivities, I should be full for awhile! I figure I will work on the food plan this week and incorporate it next week. Hope everyone had a happy Easter!

Total Randomness

I gots no direction going today so will just ramble a bit.

-I seem to have two addictions that have developed over the last year: General Foods International Coffee, of which I would drink 4-5 cups a day and watching episodes of The Office. I watch an episode every morning before work, sometimes I just watch the bleeper reel if I've recently watched all the episodes and am too lazy to put in a different dvd. BJ has started to develop a strong dislike to Michael Scott's voice. What can I say, I wish my job ran as efficiently as theirs :)

-I love pickles. But they have to be kosher dills, split in halfs or pickle chip variety, chilled and not on any other foods. Will NOT eat pickles with or on other foods. That's gross.

-Love salt, especially sprinkled on tomatoes and grapefruit. Yummy.

-I enjoy making lists: to-do lists, goal sheets, creating a calendar of events, etc. My favorite part is not actually accomplishing the goals but being able to check them off my list. Something about crossing items off makes them feel more complete than just the act of doing them.

-I prefer to write letters, send cards or email than talk on the phone. Don't know why but I blame work. In high school the phone was permanently stuck to my ear. Of course that was before this great cell phone invention. Now that I have to easy access, it's not such a big deal like it used to be. Also, since I'm on the phone at work so much I really don't want to talk when I get home.

-Still go to the theater to watch new Disney movies, especially the good cartoon ones. Yep, still a kid at heart.

**Some Wilson tidbits:
-Wilson loves toys but only stuffed animals. He does not like the rubber squeaky toys at all, even when he was a puppy. He has about 20 more more stuffed animals that I try to keep in his room. Yep, his has his own corner in the living room which has become his room. Bed, blanket, toys and bones go there.

-He has to have a toy or bone in his mouth when he greets us. No idea what that is about. He loves to howl too. He has a deep, throaty howl like he's trying to clear his throat, so cute!

-Wilson opens his own Christmas presents, and everyone else's if they let him.

- He hates water. Get's a bath once a month or more if needed but depressed the whole time. Then, he is a wackjob when you take him out.

-He sits on my lap like a human. Doesn't lay down in your lap but sits up like a two year old kid. Maybe he thinks he is one.

-Lastly, his favorite human food is popcorn; he likes peanut butter too but that's more work.

Alright, I should be getting back to some of my chores so I can have a nice, relaxing evening. Sounds like it's going to storm tonight...sounds like movies weather to me.

Pamper Thyself

It's thirsty Thursday-yeah! Used to be a big thing back in the college days. Now it means I might have one or two cocktails since there is only one more day of work to plow through. Boy do I miss those college days where my only concern was making it to the 10am class (pajamas accepted) or getting to the pool in time for swim lessons on saturdays. Ahh, the good ole' days.

Since BJ is still hard at work at this late hour I felt tonight would be a good night for some pampering. So, it's gonna be a nice, long bubble bath, then a foot soak in peppermint oil followed by some new polish on the tootsies and I think I will throw in a girly movie, too.

It's one of those nights where I have no desire to be productive-no working on the to-do lists tonight. I'll save them for the weekend. Can't be superwoman every day, now can I? Haha.

Hump Day

And boy did it ever feel like a hump to get over! Started the day with computer problems. I am not a patient person, never pretend to be and gave up trying a long time ago, so when I would not log into the "virtual portal" that we have be in to work the files, I see that my freaking sign in no longer exists. K. After restarting the computer 2 or 3 times, (who decided this idea was a cure-all for computer probs?), I break down and call the help desk...and get someone from a country far, far away trying to understand what I am telling her so she can fix this. Twenty min. later and she gives up, gives me a ticket number and states someone will call be back. Someone competent I hope. Frustration sets in and one of my coworkers, who had the same problem, comes over. We mess with the log in screen, let some damn software install and restart and voila! she's working again! Needless to say, I got into the system at 10:30 this am, which was a half hour before the lovely help desk called me back. Technology rocks!

Oh, and I've decided that some of my coworkers just have no work ethic and don't care at all about their jobs because everytime you try to correct them, they shrug off the problem. Umm, we are in legal...all of it is a big deal dang-nabbit!

So, after another work day from hell it's home sweet home. Plans for the evening are to take the puglet for a walk, get in a workout (not sure what I want to do yet) and try to figure out how to work all the gadgets on the new cell phone. I already straigtened up the house and did some laundry so at least that is out of the way.

P.S. Loving the new SUV! So roomy and I can see over traffic now-bonus! Since it's new I'm more paranoid about the idiot drivers down here. Don't want them too close to my baby. Give me a month or so and I'll be back to my regular speed demon self. Alright kiddies, I'm off!

Monday Goals

Alright, so after being a lazy bum (exercise-wise) over the weekend, it's time for some action this week. Here's my goals for today after work:

1. Firm video (45 min)

2. Make dinner-found a new recipe for chicken in one of my magazines so I think I'll give it a whirl

3. Take Wilson for walk and then a bath

4. Run (1/2 mile walk, 1.5-2 mile run, 1/2 mile walk)

5. Program new cell phone, if it arrives today.

That should keep me busy and out of trouble for the evening. Hope everyone has a great Monday.

New Purchase

After much deliberation and internal discussions with myself, I finally decided to purchase the Mercury Mariner I've been eyeing up for the past year. I've had my Ford Focus for three years now and, though she has been very good to me, I felt it was time for an upgrade. I look forward to the automatic locks, windows and cruise most of all since my Focus did not have these lovely options. Ooohh, and sitting up higher so I'm better able to see who I'm cursing out in front of me when driving to and from work.

Now I just have to figure out all the buttons, gadgets and doo-hickeys. I think I'll get up early tomorrow and hang out in the new ride until I figure out how to work the damn thing. See, I love new gadgets but am not the most patient or gadgetly-inclined (like that one!) to fully appreciate their optimum uses. For example, still working on the Garmin watch I got...have yet to program a route in there and use the heart monitor. One of these days.....

My new cell phone arrives Monday. I feel a gadget overload heading my way.

Healthier Meals

It has been said that you will eat less and eat more healthy meals if you prepare them yourself. Great! Sign me up! One problem, I have no imagination when it comes to cooking. I think salt and pepper are the best spices ever invented and would not know how to begin using foreign spices like thyme, oregano or cilantro.

I really do want to start doing more healthy home cooking but I am sooo tired of all my food dishes. I feel like I rotate my meals every couple of weeks and many of them are not health conscious: chicken fettucinni, tator tot hotdish, beef stew, etc. Hmm, no wonder I'm living on Plateau Hell with the scale these days.

So, if anyone has some good meal ideas (breakfast, lunch or dinner) or knows where I can get some yummy recipes, give me a heads up. I do have a couple cookbooks so I may check out some recipes in them, too. My goal is to prepare one new dish per week. BJ gets to be my taste-tester...hopefully my awesome cooking skills (let's hope) will make him excited for 'new recipe night'. One can hope anyway.

As for the exercise front, I have been feeling a bit under-the-weather this week and have not had a good workout since Monday. Hoping to shake this icky cold by the end of the weekend and maybe I can sneak in some running or gym time before Sunday. Later gators.

In a Bit of a Slump

I have been trying to be positive and get back on track with both the diet and exercise. Been making some long-term goals to meet by June along with some shorter weekly goals, mainly involving drinking more water, making more healthy eating choices (especially in the evenings) and regular exercise. Nothing too extreme.

I've decided to take the low road and blame it on the scale. That damn thing has not budged in about a month-just keeps fluctuating a couple pounds either way just to raise my insanity levels. I should just hide the evil contraption but then I'd have to put the blame on myself, which is probably where it should be. For instance,

1. I have not been sticking to a good eating plan. In fact, there is no eating plan with me. I had tacos and a side of nachos for dinner tonight (scrumptious but probably not too calories conscious) and have been drinking way more coffee than water. Bad girl!

2. Although I have been running every other night, I am not doing a wide range of activities on my off days like I used to. I think I need to create a workout schedule (yeah, project!) and incorporate that lovely gym membership I've been paying for back into the equation. Get some swim time, weights and cardio machines in there to spice things up.

3. Need a more definite exercise time. Before or right after work..otherwise I tend to talk myself out of it altogether.

I'm going to try and put my schedule together tonight and start fresh tomorrow. Still going to try and run tonight so I will get some calorie burning in or do an exercise video. Wilson could use a nice walk too.

Wenches, Pirates and More

Since I had such a nice, relaxing day yesterday, today was the day for some action. So, BJ and I, along w/a couple friends, headed to the Renaissance Festival in Deerfield Beach. Now, if you have never been to this before, the two best things are the food and the people watching...and we got to enjoy plenty of both!

Some highlights were the Joust, this cool drum group (totally kicked ass), the Barely Balanced Acrobats and this guy who made a sandwich solely with his feet then had an audience member eat it-yummy! The people watching was spectacular, too. So many people dress up for this that sometimes it was hard to tell who was working there and who was just enjoying the festivities. Lots of little shops to buy all sorts of trinkets, swords, gowns, etc.

Today was the last day for it here in Florida so I'm glad we caught it before they hit the road. Weather was perfect although I do notice I am a tad bit pink from all the outdoor time. Hopefully I will get a nice base tan out of it.

Good times...maybe next year I'll wear a costume. Hmmm...all the choices....

My love of Diamonds

I mentioned in an earlier post about how I would like to work at the Smithsonian. This beauty is why. This center stone is 45.52 carats, has 16 diamonds surrounding and with a necklace chain of 45 diamonds. I saw this in it's glass case at the Smithsonian in 2000 and still remember it as one of my favorite moments. It drops down into the vault right from its case after the institute closes. Bonus: the Hope diamond is said to be cursed by anyone who possesses it. How intriguing!

Nice Relaxing Day

There's something to the saying, "Everybody's workin' for the weekend." It is so true for me. I got up around 7:30 this morning, went for a walk/run in the cooler weather (low 70s), had some breakfast made by the boyfriend and then we attacked to house. I'm now on my last load of laundry and have been chillin by the pool with my book all afternoon. Weather is perfect today, temps in mid 70s, quite the breeze but I will take that over humidity any day. Needless to say, it's been a nice relaxing day..just what I needed after dealing w/retards at work all week.

Taking the Night Off

That's right..I'm boycotting all exercise and all activities related to exercise or any other type of strenuous movement for the evening..hell, typing right now is pushing the bar but I will let it slide.

I've been pretty good about getting a run in everyday for the last 3+ days but the shins are hurting big time and I think I need some R&R. Going to take the next couple days off from running since the thought of running gives me pain right now. I wish there was an all-weather track or a nice gravel road-something with a little more cushion than the damn concrete to give me some support. I think I'm gonna take Jess's advice and look into some new shoes..maybe that will help, too.

And to follow the group, here's seven random things about me:

1. I was pre-med in college and totally determined to be a doctor until I hit the genetics class. Teacher from Russia, Germany, whatever, combined with science from hell equals the end of a medical career for Crystal. I do regret this cuz I bet a little extra effort would have got me through the class. Oh well.

2. I am studying to take the LSAT in October. This is the law school admissions test. Yep, I am insane. This damn test has nothing to do w/legal intelligence but all about logical reasoning, analytical reasoning, reading comprehension, time management...I am sooo screwed.

3. Swimming is my passion. It's the one physical activity where I can free my mind, listen to the water and do laps for hours. Now, if I could just get myself to the gym and do some of these theraputic laps, hmmm...maybe tomorrow?

4. I would love to work for the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., preferably in the Jewels department. Have you seen the Hope Diamond up close? It's mesmerizing. Think I'll stand guard over that baby.

5. I love to play board games but can be a sore loser. Anyone up for a game...Battle of the Sexes anyone?

6. I want to go kayaking in Colorado, hang gliding and skydiving once more before lose my nerve.

7. I have a 'List of things to do before I die.' There are about 30 things on the list and I have accomplished maybe 5 in the last few years...I keep adding them quicker than taking them off.
