I'm Done Trying

To get up early in the morning, that is. So far this week I have set the alarm for 5am in great hopes of hopping out of bed, putting on my running clothes and getting a morning run in before work. And so far I've hit the snooze button three times (all that's allowed on my alarm clock before it shuts off for the day), reset the alarm for 6:15am and burrowed back under the covers until I awoke wide-awake at 5:30 or so with guilt for not getting up. So, what have we learned here? That after two days of this madness, I'm even more tired now and I didn't get the running in! As Homer Simpson would say, "You tried and you failed. The moral is, never try." Needless to say that alarm is set for 6:15 and it's staying there.

That's it...I'm ready for bed.

Good Morning

It's Monday already, huh? I had a pretty good weekend. Did some house cleaning, spent time with some friends, read a book or two and got in a few games of bowling. All in all, it was a pretty good weekend. Now it's time to begin a new week and get in some exercise again.

Tonight is bowling night so that is going to be the extent of my exercise today. Tomorrow I have a beach run planned with one of my buddies so that should be fun and I think there will be some swimming this week, too.

It's early, I'm still tired and I guess I'd better get ready for work. Yay! My thoughts and prayers go out to all my friends in the Fargo/Moorhead area who have been battling the flood waters over the weekend. I hope the levies hold and we don't see a flood as bad as Grand Forks in 1997.

Lazypallooza

Remember how I was kicking ass in the exercise/food categories of life? Well, I decided I was tired and needed a break...for the past four days. It's been a no-holds-barred free for all on the food front but I really haven't ventured too far off the beaten path. There have been some chips (like a bag of Doritos), lots of caffeine and some late-night snacking but nothing for me to freak out about.

And, for me, when the food goes, the exercise follows. So, I have not done any gym activity since Saturday. I did manage a little hula hooping last night but that was about it. But I'm not going to feel guilty about it. It's been a rough week at work...people out sick, too much to do, crazy attorneys...and I just needed some time to relax and catch up on my tv time.

So, now that I'm refreshed, the house is clean and I'm caught up on all my shows, I'm ready to get back into the routine again. Four days is about all I can stand without some movement anyway. Think I'll go for a run tomorrow morning.

On another note, anyone reading any good books? I have just finished my last one and am probably going to head to the bookstore this weekend for some new reads.

Wide Awake at 5am

And ready for the day! I already got some stuff done around the house. Wilson has eaten, been outside and been told he's wonderful so he is ready for his day of guarding the house. My lunch is packed, my to-do list made for the day and I'm about ready to fix my hair and throw the work clothes on. Maybe I'll even sneak in a good breakfast.

So....think this high will last until at least noon? I'd better get some coffee.

Crystal + Swimming = Tired

Tonight was swimming night and it was a tough one. I'm so happy tomorrow is Friday cuz it's a rest day for me and man-o-man could I use a rest day. I had to change into my suit at work just to insure that I would go to the gym. Okay, check. Then, there was the ride home. I did my best to talk myself out of going to the gym. I pleaded, begged, cried some crocodile tears but in the end, I stuck to my goal and forced the car into the gym parking lot, got out kicking and silently screaming, and got my butt into that pool.

Those first few laps were okay but I could feel how tired and sore my body was tonight. Every lap seemed like effort. I trudged through my workout for 30 minutes and then stopped, took off the goggles and started to stretch. As I'm stretching, I'm egging myself on: "are you really done already? Pansy." That was it. The goggles went back on and I did another ten lap freestyle sprint. The arms were burning, the legs were screaming and the heart rate was up. My inner guru says to me, "Okay, you are free to go. Stretch and have a nice day. I hear The Office is new. Enjoy." So I listened to my guru, stretched, hopped out and relaxed in the dry sauna for about 10 minutes before heading home. I'm happy I swam but am much happier for my rest day.

Time for a bubble bath and a good book. Geez, do I ever get tired of being submerged in water?

Another 3

Actually, it was 3.5 miles total. I walked about a half mile total in my warm-up and cool down and ran a solid 3 miler tonight. Sometimes these runs seem so easy and other nights it's like pulling teeth. Tonight started out a wee bit rocky but after about 1.5 miles, I got into my groove, had some good tunes on, and pushed forward. I find myself trying to elongate my stride now since I sometimes feel like I'm taking such small steps..of course maybe that's just due to my 5'2" status. Overall, it was a good run with a strong finish.

After a few weeks of steady workouts, I find myself getting into a weekly schedule. Tuesdays and Thursdays are my swimming/abs/arms workouts, Wednesdays and Saturdays are running/legs/push ups and Sunday is whatever I want day, whether that's a walk, run, workout DVD, etc. I'm keeping my rest days to Monday (due to bowling) and Friday (it's party time!) at least for now.

My body is tuckered now so I'm going to watch Criminal Minds and Damages and hit the hay. At least it's already Thursday tomorrow.

What's Up!

I'm kind of sucking it up in the update department so here's a bit of a recap. As for exercise, I think I did a pretty stellar job this past week. I ran 6 miles (3miles/2 days) and got my butt in the pool for some kick-ass workouts three days this week. I also did some hula hooping, lots of sit ups and started the 100 push-up challenge. To sum up: I rock at crunches, suck at push ups but I shall overcome!

Besides exercise, we went out on Saturday for some comedy and what a disappointment that was. No funnies, people. None. I forced a chuckle a couple times and tried to smile through the headliner but it was a sad night of performances. No wonder we had never heard of the place before. At least there was beer.

Sunday was house cleaning day so I attacked the house vehemently. Dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, laundry, etc. I love me a clean house and this baby had been neglected for quite some time so it was nice to get back on top of everything again. Now if I can just stay on top of it all.

Today was back to work (eewww) and then off to bowling. Ah, bowling. I totally sucked. I managed a decent game the first game and totally bombed the last two games. But I'm going to keep my self-esteem in check and blame it all on my bowling ball. And you know what cures a crappy ball (or at least the illusion of one)? Why, a new ball, of course! Brian dragged me kicking and screaming (it may have been smiling and skipping) to the pro shop and we picked out a new 12 pound ball. Should be here by Friday. Oh yeah, I shall rock the alleys again. I shall.

Alright, enough jibber-jabber. I only got about 4 hours sleep last night so it's time for bed.

I really work with these people?

Oh. My. Goodness. Ya know, I try to come into each work day with a positive attitude...one in which I don't think my coworkers are stupid. Unfortunately, they seem to go out of their way to prove to me again and again and again that they are indeed freaking mo fo's. Today's source of drama: the kitchen.

People tend to be pretty lazy when it comes to cleaning up after themselves. I would hate to see some of my coworkers' houses based on how they treat the workplace. There are usually crumbs everywhere, paper towels thrown about and my favorite-garbage that is set right next to the freaking garbage can. Today, someone decided to have some fun with the coffee creamer. We have powdered creamer in the office and one of my coworkers dumped the contents from one end of the counter to the other and then left it there. When the boss found out, she flipped out and wrote a nasty email about how appalled she is with whomever left the mess and swore revenge. First, coffee privileges revoked. Second, kitchen privileges revoked. Then a friend/coworker responded to the email stating she was pissed that one of us is a dumbass and now the rest of us are being punished. This went on and on all day: emails, whispered conversations, etc. Can't believe I got any work done!

The end result: no one cleaned it up cuz the boss put a sticky note next to the mess stating to leave it there until the big boss comes in tomorrow to see the damage. Can't wait for tomorrow and the ass-kicking we are going to receive from him. Love. My. Job.

Day 2

Well, yesterday was a pretty good start to my little program here. I did the hula hoop for 35 minutes outside while reading my book and it was great! Until that pesky downpour of rain kicked me and Wilson back in the house but I did a quick scenery change and I was right back into it. Later in the afternoon, I went for a nice long swim. I mainly stick to freestyle, breaststroke and back crawl, no butterfly this time around. This cute older couple were in the pool at the same time and when I stopped for a quick water break, the man asked me if I was training for the Olympics. I replied with a hearty, "I wish!" and we had a little chat before I was off again. I meet some of the nicest people at the gym. I'm definitely feeling the swimming effects in my arms today, my shoulders are still burning!

Now, today is pretty much my off day from exercise since I have bowling after work and we usually don't get home until almost 10pm. So, no big exercise plans for me today. Maybe I'll do some curls with my bowling ball? Or not-I foresee an accident happening there. As for bowling, I am going to have to pull out all my Jedi mind tricks for tonight since we sucked it up so much last week. Here's hoping for a good 3 games tonight.

31 Days

It's time to get pumped up! Since today is the first day of March, I have decided to rev up my exercise plans and do a 31 day chub-buster program. No charts or graphs, people, I am sooo not that ambitious. My plan is to do one hour of exercise every day for the next 31 days. The key to success, I think, will be in the variation of exercise to keep me entertained since running for the next 31 days would put my poor legs out of commission!

Now, some exercises don't take a full hour. I can usually kick out my running in under 45 minutes(depending on my slow pace or how long I spend trying to talk myself out of it completely) and I have not hooped for an hour yet, either. On these occasions, I think some ab work and stretches will be added into the mix. Ooh, I getting excited just thinking about all the different variations!

Focus, focus.....so, I plan to do 2-3 days of running per week. I want at least 2 days of swimming per week (been seriously neglecting this) and either cardio work at the gym or some fitness tapes at home. I would like to take a fitness class or two at the gym so I may squeeze in one of those now and then.

And where did this burst of motivation come from? Cruise pictures. The pictures don't lie, kiddies, and they scream "You need to work harder, chubbs!" It's tough, I tell ya. The pics reveal a great time that all of us had on the trip but I also see how far I still have to go to reach my goals and I can tell I'm not anywhere near my goal weight yet. I can't wait for the day to take a picture and truly be happy with what I see. Hopefully, that will happen this year. So, if you notice me slacking, feel free to give a stern shout-out to get my ass in gear.
