Busy Saturday

I like my Saturdays busy. That seems to be my day to get all the neglected household chores and leftover errands taken care of, which is pretty much what we did here today. I was up around 7:30 this morning, had my coffee and read a few chapters of Eclipse before I started in on the household chores. I cleaned the kitchen, swept and mopped the floors, dusted everything, vacuumed and washed all Wilson's blankets and pillows. Brian took care of all the yard work while I was slaving in the house. Now the yard looks great and the house has the fresh, clean smell. Love it!

This afternoon we ran to Sears and got some household goodies and bought a new grill with our Christmas gift cards, since our current grill has been losing it's power. So, Brian has been busy in the garage putting the new grill together (yes, they do come assembled but he likes to tinker so I let him put it together) and I've been finishing my household chores. I think tonight is going to be movie night and I'm all about relaxation tomorrow. Maybe if it's nice out, I'll get in a couple hours at the beach. Fingers crossed.

I thought four-day weeks were supposed to be better than the full five? Guess I was wrong. This week was a bitch. Work has become downright ridiculous. There is just too much work to handle and, since I happen to be one of the competent ones, I keep getting more added to my plate. Ugh. If this all came with a nice raise or fat bonus I wouldn't mind, but if I'm not going to see any pros from all this work, then screw it. Instead, I just keep telling myself, "two weeks off coming up, you can do it..."

So, now it's time to relax and unwind. I think I'm going to sit here and enjoy my Diet Pepsi, read some blogs and then we are going out for some yummy pizza with friends. Maybe a movie or something after that. Who knows? I don't have to get up early tomorrow :)

P.S. I went for a run last night and came back totally drenched. It's been raining here every day since FOREVER and the humidity is crazy. Picture a hot, wet blanket over you. Now run. I was so sweaty and tired when I got home, but I got my 3 miles in so I felt good about that. I sure do miss those cool temps. Oh well, that's Florida running.

Happy Friday!

5K Improvements

I signed up for a couple 5Ks over the next couple months so I figure it's time I improve on my 5K skills. Here are some things I'd like to accomplish with this:

1. Finish. Always important.
2. Run the whole thing. I get sidetracked sometimes. Floating leaves, loud twigs underfoot, other people. These tend to slow me down and/or stop me completely.
3. Not be last.
4. Be proud of my time.

Deep down, I know I've got the first 3 covered. I've been running 3 mile stretches for over a year now and I'm pretty confident I can finish the race; now, if I can just speed myself up a bit I'd be a happy little runner to boot. So, since it's actually not raining for a change, I'm going to lace up my shoes and get out there for a good 3 miles. I may even push myself. Maybe I'll wear a yogurt lid on a paper clip necklace to get me ready to medal. Oh yeah, I'm feeling the vibe now...

Cue "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit

It's just one of those days when you don't wanna wake up....blah blah blah....everybody sucks. Just stay away mother f**er. Today was just one of those days.

I had good intentions. I planned to get up early, do some hula hooping, make my lunch and be ready ahead of time for a change. Instead, I got up a little late, no hula time, made lunch but forgot the dressing for my salad, and raced out the door 5 minutes late.

Work was supposed to be a breeze today. I wanted to open up a can of whoop-ass on 3 different people in the office. Note to Self: when hiring someone, do not hire based on personality. Let's try actual skills, people!

Get home and be super-productive. I came home and grabbed a beer. Yep, that's how my day was. The beer has helped a bit. I will table kicking some asses and will settle for paint balling some asses instead.

Tomorrow will be better :)

Back Again

What a great weekend getaway! The drive to Orlando was a bit sucky...since it was raining, there were five different accidents along the way, which slowed us down a bit since the Turnpike is only two lanes, but we got there in just under 3 hours so I guess we still made pretty good time. We were able to check into the hotel early and what a beautiful pick Brian made. The rooms were great and the place had lagoons and cute little walkways and bridges everywhere and there were 3 swimming pools, a wading pool and hot tub to play in as well.

After dropping our stuff off, we headed straight to Universal Studios and had a blast. It's changed so much since the last time I was there....15 years ago.....and I think we managed to hit every ride we wanted to, and some that were so-so. After the park closed, we walked around a bit for some souvenirs and dinner and then headed back to the hotel for a little hot tub time.

Sunday we were up at the crack of 6am to attend a lovely time share presentation (totally Brian's fault) and spent 3 hours telling the salespeople-who supposedly weren't trying to be pushy-that if I don't own my own freaking house, I sure as hell don't want to own one of theirs! But, at least we got $95 bucks out of them, which paid for more goodies at the park so it wasn't a total loss. We finally made it to Islands of Adventure and I must say, their roller coasters ROCK! We hit all the hot spots there and I even got Brian on the Merry Go Round in Dr. Seuss land.

Overall, I think we had a pretty good time. The rain held out till the evening both days so we didn't get rained out at all and, for a holiday weekend, the lines weren't bad at all. Good times! Now, if only I hadn't left my damn pillow there, I'd be a happy camper. I'll just have to take one of theirs next time :)

So, now it's back to reality. I was a crabby mcbitchcakes at work today. I didn't want to be there and had so much work to do so I just did my best to keep to myself. Which is when everyone wants to talk to you. All day long. Every five minutes. Forever.

I ate like a pig this weekend so now I have to get back in the saddle and get my ass in gear. Only 57 days to home! I think I'll run tonight as long as it doesn't storm anymore. Maybe some hula time too.

End of the Week Cheer

I love 3 day weekends. I especially love them when the bosses are nice and decide to let us all out at 2pm today. Yeah! Which was totally great for me because I had some errands to run after work that I wanted take care of before enjoying this lovely weekend. Now that they are out of the way, I just have to straighten up the house, get Wilson's things ready for his weekend sleepover with the neighbors and pack my bags for our little vacation to Universal Studios this weekend. I can already here The Incredible Hulk roller coaster calling my name....

Jess: Hope you have a wonderful shower and get lots of goodies. I'm sure Erin has done a great job putting everything together.

Time to finish my chores and get ready for a friend's birthday party. No late nights though, I've been told we're leaving at the ass-crack of dawn. I swear I'll be home by 11 tonight. Sure I will....

Just Another Day

Nothing special going on today. Work was pretty good. Some changes going on but we are still sorting through it all. Needless to say, it means more work and stress for me and (fingers crossed) hopefully a bit more money, but I won't find that out until next week. So, I'm just hoping for good things on that front.

I'm trying to get back into my exercise groove. Being out sick for nearly two weeks really made me, well, lazy. I miss watching tv without guilt. I did get up early yesterday morning and hula hoop for about 30 minutes and got out for a 2.5 mile run last night, but it was not one of my best. I'm a bit sore today but still thinking about getting back out there for another run tonight, especially since The Office is a repeat (see what I mean about the tv).

Alright, the to-do list is running shoes are calling....and I need to get in some study time. Later gators

On Again Off Again

And Rain....
And Sunshine....
And Rain...

This about sums up the weather patterns for today. I heard it raining in the wee hours this morning but it was nice and sunny when I got up so I had my cup of coffee on the patio with my book and Wilson until we got a nice little shower and were forced inside. After two of these, I decided to cut my losses and just stay inside. So, no pool time today but we desperately need some rain so I was glad to see it. It would have been nice to see an all-day soak but the rainy season is about here so I'm sure those days are coming up.

Since the weather was a bust, I worked on the laundry, straightened up the house and spent the majority of my day reading. I must confess. I am now hooked on the Twilight series. Sigh. I really thought I could fight this one but I was wrong. I finished with New Moon earlier this afternoon and told myself to take a break and either read something else or find something else to do. No problem! I found something to do....I got in the car, drove to Target and bought Eclipse. I would have grabbed Breaking Dawn, too, but they were out of it. But after that book, I am sooooo cut off from buying books. I've bought six now this month, Breaking Dawn will make seven and that is enough! Until next month anyway :)

Alright, Eclipse is calling me. Got to get at least a couple chapters in this evening. I must know what happens next!

A.M. Run

My adrenaline rush did not crash last night. I did take Wilson out for his walk and then sat by the pool and read a couple chapters before heading into the house to watch some Law & Order. I think I first tried to go to bed at 11pm and woke up on and off throughout the night-full of energy-until my alarm finally went off at 5am. Hmm...should I get up and be productive or stay in bed and pretend I'm trying to sleep? So, after 3 hits on the snooze button, I got my butt up and got my running gear on.

Now, it's been quite a while since I got my ass up to do a morning run. Lately I've been good with getting them done in the evenings but, do to being sick for nearly two weeks, I've really slacked on the running so why not bust back into it in the wee hours of the morning, right?

So, I got out there, got the Garmin up and running and did a 5 minute warm-up. Then I started running. My body felt so stiff and out of sync, no wonder I don't do too many morning runs. Don't get me wrong, I wish I could get up every morning and do my exercise but I always feel like I'm working at half my potential. Maybe it's just because I'm not used to it.

It turned out to be a pretty good run. I only squeezed in about 2.5 miles before I had to head in and get ready for work but I felt strong and accomplished all day. Surprisingly not tired, either. Let's keep this energy going!

Feelings of Accomplishment

I think someone slipped me some crack or speed or maybe just spiked my coffee with some herbal pick-me-up because I have been a to-do list machine this evening! For those who don't know, I love to-do lists. However, sometimes I keep adding and adding without ever subtracting any of them. There's one of my biggest problems: I'm a great thinker (for a blonde) but getting my plans into action...not so much. So, today at work I made a mini to-do list just for today. It seems to have worked. Ever since I got home, I've been on a roll.

So far, I've:
-Made dinner and did the dishes;
-Got rid of the dead plants from the front yard and watered all plants that are still alive (I wanted some new ones anyway);
-Swept and vacuumed all floors;
-Filled the pool back up;
-Cleaned the patio area and sprayed the deck;
-Sprayed the backyard for bugs (it's that time of year again);
-Had a beer (very important to rehydrate yourself); and
-Straightened up the house.

The only thing left on my list is take Wilson for a walk and hula hoop. I feel so accomplished! It's nice to get a few things out of the way and finally off that list. Tomorrow is a whole new day just waiting for it's own mini list. Maybe I'll get started on that right now.

Tuesday's Tidbits

  1. Only 70 days until we are Minnesota bound! Yeah! I know this may seem a bit obsessive but I haven't been to my home state in 3 years and I haven't seen my parent's place since May of 2005. I'm ready!
  2. I am going to be an auntie within the next couple of weeks. Getting really excited!
  3. Wilson was a total buttmunch on his walk tonight. Every blade of grass, crack in the sidewalk and stray leaf needed a 5 minute inspection. He's a bit too thorough, I think.
  4. Fish sticks and tartar sauce rock!
  5. I'm thinking of trying out this new kickboxing place if the money is reasonable. I'm up for a good ass-kicking...or getting my ass kicked. It's all good.
  6. I'm currently reading New Moon by Stephanie Meyer. It's pretty good so far. And I'm reading some of Edgar Allen Poe's short stories...loving them
  7. I need a new freaking computer. This post just took 25 minutes to type cuz my computer is stupid and slow.
  8. Time for a run!

It's Pool Time Again

After all these lovely winter months of nice, cool weather and low humidity, it is now May and that means the temperatures have started to hike up into the 90s, the humidity is creeping back up and the clothes are getting skimpier. For me, it means the pool is finally starting to heat up into the 80s again and I can get back in there without shivering again. Woo hoo!! So, that's exactly what I've been doing for most of the daylight hours this weekend...floating in the pool with a book, my soda or water and two dogs watching me very closely to make sure I don't get into any mischief. It has been wonderful.

Speaking of two dogs, as many of you know, we only have one dog, Wilson, but we are dog sitting for some friends while they headed to MN for a nice family visit. For anyone with pets, you know they can be so entertaining. They take turns going outside and they take turns eating. They even take turns going for walks...which is bonus for me. This only because their walking styles are so different. Wilson likes to sniff every-freaking-thing and is constantly running back and forth. Annie, on the other hand, is all business. And she is a power walker-love it! She kept me going at such a fast walking pace, I had no need for my evening run! Now, if I could just get the two of them to share toys better, we'd be perfect over here. They both have to play with the same one at the same time...sounds like kids, doesn't it?

Pool and doggy time has been the focus of my weekend. Now, I think we are going to do some grilling and maybe watch a movie.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and moms-to-be!

Talk of the Office

I've had my current job now for about two and a half years and the majority of the staff has been there for at least a year or more so we all know each other pretty well now. So, yesterday, I thought I'd shake things up a bit. You know, try to get the gossip going and get some excitement flowing through the office. I did the unthinkable....I wore a skirt to work. Gasp! I have never worn any type of dressy outfit to work before-slacks or jeans only. So, the shock when I walked in wearing a nice black skirt, cute heels and my hair down was nearly more than everyone could handle. I got lots of compliments (bonus!) and several questions.....interview? hot date? trying to impress someone? Ah, they make me laugh. These are just some of the joys of working in a smaller office setting, I guess. Thank goodness today is Friday and it's just a jeans day. No stress there.

Good thing I didn't jump right in and wear a dress...that would have been overwhelming!

Pat on the Back

I'm down 40 pounds and counting! Woo Hoo!!
