Hi Guys

Nothing too exciting happening recently and I've been too lazy to blog. So what has been happening? Well, we are dog-sitting our neighbors' pug this week and he's a little hell-raiser! I did find his one weakness-he is terrified of my hula hoop! He actually hid in his cage while I was using it. Poor little guy!

I finished reading Wuthering Heights, The Scarlett Letter and Candy Girl. Now I'm back to Bleak House. This book is like Pillars of the Earth for me. Not exciting enough for me to stay interested but I am determined to finish it. Good times. I did buy three new books so when I flake out on this one (again), I'll hit one of them.

Have watched some movies: My Bloody Valentine, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Powder Blue. Still have the new Friday the 13th to watch. I love me a scary movie-although most of these are just gruesome, not scary so I'm a little disappointed. ( I grew up watching Silence of the Lambs, what can I say).

I have not been to the gym since my last post but I'm not ready to let go of my membership so I'm going to keep it another month with the stipulation that I use it a couple times a week or it's gone.

Sunday is my "new recipe Sunday" and last Sunday was Mom's lasagna recipe. It turned out pretty dang good. Brian wished I had made a bigger serving of it so I guess that's a good sign. I'm not too sure about this Sunday though, I may be hungover from the 4th of July bash. Will keep you posted.

Well, that about sums things up..and since my computer is being a bitchtart, I am signing out. Peace out kiddies!

Bad Gym Bunny

Me: Hi, my name is Crystal and I am a bad gym bunny.

Audience: Hi Crystal!

Sigh. I must be honest. I think I've only stepped into the cool air-conditioned doors of my gym 3 times this year. It's not that I don't enjoy going there...it's a really nice gym, clean, lots of classes offered, a good cardio/weight area and a great swimming pool. It's 5 minutes from my house and I drive by it every day after work. There's really nothing bad to say about the place.

What's the problem then? Duh....I don't know. I've been working on my running a lot this year, so I've been putting my shoes to good use out on the pavement instead of the cushioned cardio floors of the gym. I've got my hula hoop at home that I use every couple of days and a few exercise tapes that keep me entertained as well. I've been tempted just to cancel the damn membership but I just can't seem to do it. Why? Cuz I do love to swim and my backyard pool just can't compete with my mileage and I would love to take a spinning class now and then..and I love a good treadmill workout every so often...and I just can't let it go!

So, I've decided to give myself a gym ultimatum. Either I go to the gym at least 2 days a week for the rest of the month or that baby is going to be canceled, because if I'm not going to use it, then I should stop spending $$ on it. And that, my friends, is that. Maybe I'll go swimming today-my poor little gym bag is just waiting to have the dust bunnies swept off it. Even a treadmill run sounds good since it's already heading into the 90 degree range for the day.

After all, I've only got 32 days till the trip home. I've got some serious work to do!

Addicted to Dunkin

My new favorite drink: coffee coolata from Dunkin Donuts. I could drink these all day long, of course I'd be wired like the Energizer Bunny on crack, but that just may be a price I'm willing to take. I'm trying to limit myself to one a week. So, I've had three this week so far. It's working out quite well, don't you think?

Maybe I'm drinking all the coffee because I've been in serious slug mode all week. I think part of it's work and the other part is the weather. Work is still non-stop craziness so, by the time I leave at the end of the day, I'm exhausted. All I want to do is come home, sit down on the couch and not think for an hour or so. The weather is brutal now, too. It is so freaking hot outside this week I feel like I'm baking nicely in an oven when I go out. Even after the sun sets, the heat blanket remains. Lovely...and it's only June! Gasp!!

I'm planning on going for another sweaty run this evening. I finally remembered to wear my heart monitor on my Tues run and it showed my heart rate in the 140s when running...and that's after the sun had set for the night so I can only imagine what a midday run would be. I think I'll wear it again tonight and see where I'm at. I'm hoping to be able to push through at least two miles before my body gives up. Maybe all this caffeine will help.

Or maybe I'll just chill on the couch and catch up with all my shows. It is "Thirsty Thursday" after all...I wouldn't want to disappoint. See, I'm totally rambling. I must be tired. Maybe I should run out for another coolata. Just a small one, I promise :)

Total Redemption!

Tonight was bowling night. I started out like a dud but managed to finish as a warrior! My first game was, ummm...very sad. I only scored a 93. I asked my teammates to blind me for the rest of the night and said I would be the cheering squad. They laughed at me and poured me more beer. Mmmm....beer

Second game was a bit better. I got no strikes whatsoever but I still managed to maintain a decent score with some kick-ass spares and lots of nines. I happily finished with a 145.

By the third game (and third pitcher) I was in prime bowling form. Strike here! Strike there! I was finally on fire baby! I finished this game with a sweet 215. This was my first game in the 200's for league and the first time I got a 4-bagger (4 strikes in a row). Good times baby!

So, that about sums up my night. Now I'm gonna go enjoy my bowling high before it's time for bed. Nighty night!

Sweltering 5K

This morning I got up at ten minutes to 6am, threw on my clothes and headed to Quiet Waters Park for the Race for a Cure 5K. There was a nice turnout, clear skies and the humidity was in full effect. This is only my second 5k event: my first one took place February of last year so it was much cooler and it was still a little dark when we started. Not so for this one. The sun was high in the sky by 7am, I was already sticky from the heat/humidity combo and I rushed to get ready so I didn't eat or drink much of anything beforehand.

However, it was still a good time. The race went throughout the park and around a couple small lakes so the views were nice while running. I also beat my time by about 4 minutes from the last 5k I did so I felt pretty good about that.

Some things I will do differently for the next one: try to eat a little something before the race cuz I was dragging for awhile, and wear a tank top and shorts-no sleeves or jogging pants cuz it's just too freaking hot for that nonsense! Other than that, the race went well and I'm happy with the results. It's nice to have a good run done before 8am, an iced coffee already consumed and some pool time to look forward to. Happy Sunday!

A Few of My Favorite Things

What a lovely Saturday it has been and I got to enjoy a few of my favorite things today. This morning, I straightened up the house after Brian and gang left to shop for fireworks and then cleaned up the patio/pool area. And since it was so nice and sunny today, I got my book, sunscreen and pool floaty and hopped in the pool for some good sun soaking. It was glorious! Even with all this rain we've had, the pool is a warm 84 degrees, only 2 degrees away from my perfect 86. I floated around for most of the morning and afternoon, only stepping in the house for laundry cycles and to check out the fireworks loot...guys, we are gonna have some fun this year!

Around 3pm or so, the clouds got dark and we were hit with a doozy of a thunderstorm so Wilson and I went in the house for a little nap ( I love sleeping during storms) before heading out to the bookstore for a few new reads. I do have some at home that I haven't read yet but I wasn't feeling the vibe from any of them. I got Wuthering Heights-Emily Bronte, The Scarlet Letter-Nathaniel Hawthorne and Candy Girl-Diablo Cody. The next stop was Blockbuster for some movies and then a last stop at Dunkin Donuts for an iced coffee.

So now I think I'll sit down with a book and my yummy coffee and relax for a bit before movie time. Enjoy your Saturday!

Time Warp

I'm starting to get confused on what day it is. As one of my new duties, I have to get all the files prepped and ready for the attorneys' upcoming hearings, trials, etc. and these are always done two weeks before the actual date. So, I keep thinking today is the 18th and next week is the the 25th and this can be a bit of a hindrance when I finally step out the the office world and back into the regular one. It's good I checked the calendar closely when I got home cuz it's my parents' 32nd wedding anniversary today and I must remember to call them! Congrats to them!

As for my evening, I've got a workout planned, some Wilson time and then I'm off to a friend's house for a play date. Yeah! At least I think it's tonight...maybe I've got my days mixed up again.

It's only Tuesday but work has been brutal this week! Due to my lovely "promotion, " I have a lot of new responsibilities to go with my old ones. At least before I was comfortable with my workload and could see the end of the tunnel. This week, the tunnel has been covered up with files and there's no way out! I just keep telling myself to take one thing at a time and go from there-too bad this approach really doesn't work in the legal profession. Damn me to hell for being competent!!

Since I feel like a bus just ran over me, I'm going to take a half hour or so to relax and read for awhile, while it rains...again. Then I think I'll head to the pool. I have neglected my swimming for quite some time but I'm feeling the urge to jump back in again. Swimming laps helps me forget about everything but the sound of the water going past me and a good cardio workout will do me good. Time to find those goggles!

Summer League

Now that summer has come around, it's time for a summer bowling league. Yay! This one should prove to be a good time. It's much shorter than the winter league, 11 weeks instead of 37 weeks, and there are only 16 or so teams. It was nice to see some familiar faces tonight as about half the teams were from the winter league, but there were also some new faces too.

I had a pretty good start with a 135, then stepped it up a notch for a 176 and finished with a sad little 110. The good news is our team kicked butt overall and got 18 out of 22 points. Score! We played a team that likes to scream and curse at one another...very entertaining. So, that was bowling night. Room for improvement but good times over all.

Now it's time to play with Wilson as the poor little guy has been cooped up all evening. I think I'll chase him around the house for awhile.

Hitting the Wall

You know it's going to happen. In fact, it's been lurking since you started this whole weight loss process. The dreaded plateau. Well, it has arrived for me and it's not budging. I had been doing pretty well on my progress so far. A couple pounds here and there over the last year for a 40 pound loss...a pretty good start, I must say. But for the last 5 months...notta. The scale has not budged. I may fluctuate a pound here and there but she's staying steady and holding strong. For a while, at least my measurements were still going down in numbers, but now they too have stopped moving. I've hit the wall people-bam!

So, am I gonna cry about it? Get all upset, give up and eat 5 doughnuts for breakfast to hide my frustration? Not this time. Instead of looking at this obstacle in defeat, I am going to treat it as a challenge. I will push through this wall and get to the other side as a lean, mean fighting machine. I find plateaus to be good spots to reevaluate what works and what doesn't. Do I need to increase my weight lifting? Probably. It's at zero right now. How about the cardio? I do get in my 3 miles but this may take me 30-45 minutes. I should be getting a solid hour of cardio. How about my diet? I know there's always room for improvement there.

So that's what I am going to do. Sit down and evaluate where I am at now and where I want to be. No more plateau. I've been stuck here long enough and it's time to move on.

Crap. It's National Doughnut Day today. Sprinkles sound really good...with a nice french vanilla coffee.....and there's cake tomorrow....

Umm, I'll start Monday?

Nothing Much to Say

I'm having one of those weeks where not much is happening, and when there's not much happening, I've got nothing to say. Work is pretty much the same-I show up, they pay me. I have managed to get in two runs this week, although last night's run was cut short since I didn't leave the house until 9:15 and I don't care to be out running after 10pm-it is a school night after all-but neither run was anything spectacular to write about so...there.

I have some household things I want to get done tonight and I should study for an hour or so, but that's about all I have planned for tonight. I'm just boring this week. Maybe the weekend will be more exciting.

Naughty Luncher

I think I should start a support group, Naughty Lunchers Anonymous. I forgot (aka was too lazy) my lunch today so I decided to grab a bite to eat. Now, there's not a great selection near my workplace but there is Subway, Quiznos and two grocery stores, so I could have come up with some delicious and relatively low on the fat and calories.

So where did I go? Wendys.
What did I get? Small fry (only ate half), spicy chicken sandwich and coffee toffee frosty.
How's that for total fat and calories? 1245 calories and 52 grams of fat.

Good job, Crystal. I'd better wear sweats and a long-sleeve shirt for my run tonight.

P.S. I'm so having fish sticks for dinner :)
