Rip Off

Well, after researching for the last few days on different personal trainers, I have come to conclusion that the whole personal trainer thing is a giant rip off. Unless your rich and then it doesn't matter.  $200 a month for 4 sessions? Umm, no.

So, I think I may just have to do this the old-fashioned way....using my own efforts to lose weight. What a crazy concept!  I have a gym membership, several exercise dvds of all types, a jump rope, hula hoop and a great pair of running shoes so there should be no excuses. So...I think I will try and map out some sort of plan and see what I can come up with for January.  Gonna take this one month at a time, I think, that way I don't get bored.

Here's to a happy new year to everyone!  Be safe and enjoy a little bubbly tomorrow :)

New Purchases

Tonight I hit up Target (pronounced Tar-jay) for some last minute gifts and managed to find a couple things for myself. Looking forward to checking them both out in the next few days.

Hmm...do you see a pattern here? I figured after 3 months of slothful behavior on my part, it was time to give myself a jump start back into the fitness world...and what better way to do that than with new swag!  So, I think I will check out my new book first and try yoga later on.  The yoga should be interesting, seeing as I can't keep quiet or sit still for more than 5 minutes without thinking about a ton of stuff.  Hopefully some strange poses will inspire me.

Did you notice I love the meanest trainers out there?  If I had the money, I would hire them both so they could yell at me on alternative days.  In a perfect world...yes, in a perfect world.

All Done!

Hurray! I am all done with school! Woo hoo!!  Finished, finito, all friggin done. So happy this day has come.  Even though it only took a year to complete my remaining requirements for my psych degree, it is nice to be completely done and over with it all.  And no, I will not be walking in the graduation ceremony.  Been there. Done that.  Nope, the next time I will walk is if I make thru law school, or some other graduate school if law school rejects my ass.

So, what's next on the agenda for Crystal?  Well, I hear the LSAT calling my name.  I think I am going to study (ha!) and take this friggin test once and for all so I can see if becoming a lawyer is worth my effort or not.  It's all in the test, or so they tell me :)  So, I am looking at either the Feb or June date.  All depends on how ambitious I am feeling about this whole studying thing again.  Regardless, I think I am taking the rest of December off for some relaxation, drinks and presents!

I have also been looking for a new job and just had a pretty good interview so am keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out well....meaning they want to pay me well, that is.

As for wedding plans, they have been on a stand-still for the past month but I will be hitting that to-do list with the new year cuz time is creeping up fast!  So, that about sums up the past couple of months.  There's been some drama here and there but what would life be like without that, I suppose.  So, now I think it's time to have a little eggnog ice cream and read a book that isn't a school book. Good times!

P.S.  I have basically not exercised in months so that means the whip will be cracked once the holidays are over cuz this cycle must end. It's time to get fit again!  After my ice cream of course.

Ft Lauderdale Half??

Yeah, I'm thinking....not a chance.  I had signed up for the Ft. Lauderdale half marathon several months ago, thinking that would give me the motivation to keep running during the summer but, alas, with school and pool time, I did very little running.  Now the race is a mere 3 weeks away and I am in no condition to run 13.1 miles.

How do I know this? Cuz I went running this evening and was so happy to stop I could hardly stand it! Sweating, shin splints, the whole works. And my mileage? Just over 2 miles. Good friggin times kiddies. So, needless to say, I think I am going to sit this one out and maybe do one later this year or early next year.  There are plenty to chose from and, considering I am practically starting from scratch in my running abilities...yet again, I need lots more practice.  On that note, I am gonna park myself in front of the couch for some nice tv time....and meditate. Yeah, that's what I'll do :)

No more chunky

Let Buff Bride Bootcamp Begin!!!

or

Bridezilla Gets Fit!!!!

Either way, today is Day 1 and my goal in this process is to put down the cupcakes and pick up some weights. I have been looking at a lot of wedding dresses and I can say with certainty that chunky bride is not how I want to look, especially since pictures add, what, 20 pounds....30 pounds.....

So, today I have been eating like a good girl and this evening I am going to go for a 3 mile run.  It is absolutely gorgeous outside and I am actually forward to a nice run since the humidity isn't so crazy this week. I may even add some crunches/sit ups or some hula hooping.

Alright, I'm off to finish making dinner and the rest of this evening's plans.  Have a great evening everyone!!

Couple of Pics

My mom, aunt Laurie and cousin BreeAnna were here for a visit this past weekend and I just dropped them off at the airport a few hours ago.  I was sad to see them leave but I am sure Brian has had enough with all the women in the household!

Here's a couple pics:

My mom and my aunt Laurie

My cousin BreeAnna and I finishing a refreshing margarita

Wilson....not quite sure what he's doing

We had a great time and, as usual, it went too fast.  The next visit will have to be when Brian and I head "up north" sometime next year.

Sick and Tired

Yep, that pretty much sums up my weekend.  Brian was sick most of last week after we came back from our Minnesota trip and I was oh so fortunate to catch the little cold bug on Friday.  Needless to say, there has been a lot of sleeping, tv watching and just feeling lazy all weekend trying to get this bug to run its course.  At least I got all my pesky homework done!

What sucked is that the weather was freaking gorgeous this weekend and I would have loved to have been outside but what can a girl do? Oh yeah, watch Disney's Princess and a Frog three times.  ( I like it)!

Now I think I'll park myself back on the couch and finish watching the Bears game with Brian. Good times.

Headin Up North

Brian and I are off to Minnesota at the ass crack of dawn tomorrow morning for my BFF's wedding!! I am so excited for her and  so happy to be included in her big day.  It's going to be a great time seeing old college friends and hanging out with people I haven't seen in several years.  Plus I get to get all prettied up in a nice dress, get my hair done and drink lots! What's not to love?  Well, maybe my speech but I'll work on that on the plane ride up there.  There's so many good memories, I have plenty of material at my disposal :)

So, now it's just to finish my homework (midterms this week), pack and get a decent night's sleep as I have to get up at the great hour of 3am. Yippee!! Hope everyone has a great weekend.  I shall return with good stories and some hopefully some great photos.

Venue Shopping

Brian and I spent the day doing some wedding venue shopping and all I can say to that is...wow, what a reality check that was.  I never had any doubts that the wedding would be expensive but some of these venues are just friggin crazy!! $400 per night for a room? Yeah, no problem...I'm sure my family would love to pay for that (this would be one of the Keys locations).  We looked at four places yesterday: one was too small for the reception but had a beautiful beach; the second one in Hollywood (Crowne Plaza) we didn't even stop in cuz it looked crappy; the third was in Deerfield Beach and was really pretty but a little on the pricey side for rooms, not to mention the ceremony was not included in the deal and was kind of out in a public space.  Lastly was a place up in Jupiter Beach which we both really liked but, once again, a little on the expensive side; but at least this one included ceremony and reception.

So, the Jupiter Beach one is in the "maybe" pile and we will just keep looking until we find what we really want.  Or win the lottery and do whatever we want...I'd be okay with that too :)

Other than that, I am trying to get motivated to do all my homework since Brian and I are heading up to MN for my BFF's wedding this weekend. Yay! That and the 50 other things I have to get done before we leave at 4am on Friday.  On that note, it's time to get to work!

P.S.  To my dear Vikings....you'd better pull your heads out of your asses and kick some Dolphin ass!!

Running Mantra

I will get up and run tomorrow....

I will get up and run tomorrow....

I will get up and run tomorrow.....

ooh....shiny object! What was I talking about? Oh well, where's my beer?

So So Sweaty

Just ran 3 miles.

Haven't run in over a month.

It's humid as hell out there.

Which makes me sweaty as hell.

Now I know why I haven't ran in the last month.

But I will admit I feel pretty dang good.

Now if I could just stop sweating....

A cold beer and a jump in the pool should cure that!

Sunday, September 12, 2010

Huh

so it appears that if you decide to eat whatever you want and dont exercise, you wont lose weight.  huh. well i guess that means its time to get off my butt and get back into my exercise/healthy eating routine again.

i will definitely start tomorrow....i refuse to be a chunky bride.  hee hee

Key West Bound!

My homework is done....
The house is nearly clean...
My bags are so not packed yet...
But, I am ready to head to the Keys!

Brian and I will be departing early tomorrow morning for Key West and I can't wait for a nice long weekend hanging out by the pool, hanging out on Duval St. and soaking up some sun and alcohol.  It's gonna be great!  Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend!

Wide Awake

Who needs sleep, right?  I have been wide awake since just before 4am. After laying in bed for what felt like forever, I finally gave up and got up.  So, I think I'm gonna go hula hoop for a half hour (not enough time to go for a run now) and then proceed to get ready for the day.

Yep, I have a feeling a large coffee will be necessary this morning.  Hope no one at work feels like talking to me till about 10am this morning...that should give the coffee enough time to make me happy and chipper!!

Ha! Yeah right ~ alright, time to hula.

No More Stats!!!

Life makes sense again.

Monday, August 9, 2010

Pool Time!

Yesterday I was a good girl and did a nice 3 mile run.  It had rained all day yesterday, so I was happy it finally stopped around 8pm or so and I could get out there. The humidity was so thick my shirt was damp just from the air, let alone my sweaty self! But totally worth it.

Today I finally got myself to the gym (yep, I know I joined a couple weeks ago, what of it?) for a 30 minute swim.  I got in a good 50 laps, with about 12 of them being arms only exercises.  Gotta get me some strongs for the strapless dress cuz flab plus strapless equals not so sexy.  I felt pretty good about those 50...ya know, didn't feel like I was gonna die, kept up a good pace, no stopping, all that good stuff.  Now, an hour and a half later, I am feelin it.  Every. Joint. Hurts. Every. Muscle. Hurts.  My. Hair. Hurts. (that last one could be chlorine effects).  But again, totally worth it. I feel better already and I just keep picturing myself in the dress to keep me motivated.

Good thing a put two copies of it on the fridge....and my phone.....

Alright, time for a beer and some stats. Don't be jealous now, it's loads of fun. Really. Well, after one more beer it will be.

Cupcakes are not the Answer

I've been waiting patiently for my bridesmaid dress and it finally arrived yesterday. Now that it's here, I feel this is when I need to start getting serious about my workouts.  Yes, I agree that my workouts would have been much more beneficial months ago, well before the dress arrived but I am a procrastinator to the end so here we are.  Overall the dress fits quite nicely right now, maybe just needs to be shortened a bit (I am a whopping 5'2" after all) and brought in here and there but it's a pretty good fit.  What I really want to tone up are my arms and legs....and everything else but especially arms and legs.

So, to commerate this great moment, I did the scale/measurements routine this morning to start me off. Um, guess what?  If you want to lose weight, cupcakes, chips, iced coffee, etc. are not the answer.  The scale betrayed me, which is normal, but then my tape measure joined forces and I found myself completely annoyed with all my numbers.  And there is no one to blame but myself.  I have been playing the "start tomorrow" game for months now and, after about a dozen cupcake under my belt, I am now paying the consequences.

It's time to get back to the gym, get back to running and try to eat a hell of a lot less sugar.  Although a life without red velvet cupcakes will be a wee bit gloomier in the beginning, I am sure I will survive.

The Second Half

I've been a running no-show for far too long lately. I decided the only way that was going to change was by signing up for another race. Well, I keep going back and forth with Disney. It's expensive, you have to get a hotel, food, driving, etc. although it is an awesome place to run a race I just can't decide if I really want to fork out that kind of money. Also, why not try a race a wee bit closer to home? One I can just drive to, run and head back home for a soak in the pool. So that's what I did.

Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon here I come!  It's in November so that gives me plenty of time to get my butt back in gear and start running again.  I went for a quick two miler last night and thought I was gonna die.  Oh, that and I hit a car. Yep, while running. Cuz that's how I roll.  No bumps or bruises, just a lot of swearing.

So now that I've signed up, I feel ready to lace up the shoes on a regular basis and start running for shiny objects again.  Can't wait! Just hope the humidity is gone by then.

Out with the old, In with the new

I think it's time over a major overhaul.  Encompassing every aspect of my life.  There's just a whole lot of crap that I think I can ditch and what better time to start than right now?!!

Anyone else ever feel like this?  Like you just need to clean house inside and out and simplify things again?  Sometimes I think this pertains to friendships, too.  Sometimes you outgrow certain people in your life or just can't find positive reasons to remain friends with some people.  I foresee some of that happening too.

Well, to start my "summer cleaning" I think I'll have a beer. Beer makes it all better!!

Back to the Gym

My gym membership and I are like a bad relationship.  We have gotten together and broken up 3 times now and hopefully this is the last one!  I really wasn't looking to rejoin the gym, but they kept offering me sweet deals until I could no longer refuse!  Their timing was perfect, too, since it's summer and hot as hell out there...that and I have been missing my lap swimming.  Not to mention a wedding coming up and I have been stress eating like a crazy person...can't be a chunky bridesmaid!!

So, I am officially heading back to the gym.  Hopefully I can get into a nice routine of cardio, swimming and maybe a class here and there. I am looking forward to it!!

At Capacity

So I decided to go on Disney's website and see if the Wine & Dine half marathon had it 90% yet. Well, it not only hit 90% but it at full capacity for both the half and the relay. So, I guess Disney made my decision for me....no wine and dine race for me!

I am a wee bit disappointed that I didn't sign up in time since a night run...at Disney of all places....would have been awesome, but there are plenty of other races to enter and most of them are far less expensive. I think I am going to do the Key Biscayne 10K in November and maybe the Fort Lauderdale half later this year/next year..whenever it is.

That doesn't mean I have put Disney out of my racing mind quite yet.  There is the Disney half in January or, if I'm really ambitious (I'm not), the full marathon.  The full is at 50% and the half is already at 70%.  Let's see if I can beat the clock for one of these!!

Decision Time

I have been stalking the Disney race website for the past couple of months, going back and forth on whether or not I should sign up for the Disney Wine and Dine half marathon in October.  I really do want to do this race but there are some down sides too.

The pros and cons:

Pros:
  • it's a Disney race and will totally rock
  • the start time is 10pm - nothing like a night race through the parks to shake things up
  • it's during the food and wine festival...need I say more?
  • i would get a shiny medal
Cons:
  • it's the following weekend after we come back from MN. that's a lot of travelling
  • sometimes it's still friggin hot in Oct-last year it was up near 100 degrees at that time
Okay, so my pros outweigh the cons. Right now the race is at 86% full capacity. Maybe I will wait till it's at a solid 95% and make my decision. What to do, what to do.....

Sweaty Mess

After having a great, relaxing weekend spent mostly floating on my raft in the pool, I decided to head out for a little run this evening.  My original plan was to do 3 miles but, after seeing the skies light up with some flashy electricity, I decided to cut it a mile short and head home.

HA!

Who am I kidding?! It's friggin hot as hell out there..even at 9pm. Running in Florida summers can be described as putting on a full cotton track suit and cotton hat and then locking oneself in a wet sauna and running in place for a half hour or so.  Sound fun?  Cuz it's not.

The sucky thing is all the races in south florida are, of course, if the late fall/winter months.  Great! But to be fully prepared for this runs, I have to get my lazy butt out there and run in the outdoor sauna during the summer months.  Blech.

Alright, enough whining, I am going to take my sweaty self for a quick dip in the pool and then unwind for the evening. Maybe even do some more homework. I am loving this forensics class....for once I look forward to my homework!

Peace out homies!

75 Days

I've got 75 days to look great in this bridesmaid dress.

That means it's time to step it up a notch (or two) and start my "must look hot in bridesmaid dress" exercise/nutrition plan today! Please note that I have been saying I'm going to start this plan since the 90 day mark but there have been just too many good foods for me to try so I had to wait till after the 4th...and give myself an extra week just for leftovers....but now I am ready for action!

Here's hoping I make it through Day 1 with no slips!

Helllooooo!!!

On my third and most delightful Bud Light Wheat yet.  Oh, it is so nice to be done with that last school session I can't even describe it in words...except to say that this session, upon reading the syllabi for both classes, appears to be worse! Ugh. Now I've got Experimental Stats and Forensics.  So excited for forensics but so much work to do in that class.

Good thing I am the bomb-diggity or there would be problems!! Alright, back to my beer, dinner and a relaxing evening.  I am doing nothing tonight but will start fresh with goals and plans and all that stuff tomorrow.

Later gators!!

All I Can Say Is....

After this school week from hell, I am gonna need a wine night.  With lots of bottles of wine. In different colors and flavors.  With little wedges of cheese.  And some delightful crackers. Mmmmm......

Running Boycott

I have been boycotting running lately.  Actually, I did go out for a nice 3 mile run last Sunday...it was so friggin humid that I was thrilled when it started to rain a little. Then it started to rain a bit harder. Then it said, screw you, and the downpour came down.  I just kept on running and actually ran by the house cuz I refused to give up till I got my 3 miles in-Brian was just about to come look for we when he saw my soaking self come hydroplaning around the corner.  Funny enough, I much preferred running in a torrential thunderstorm than the humid hot box I was formerly running in.

So, until this stupid weather cools down..or I sign up for a race and feel guilty...me and running are going to be distant buddies.  My Scandinavian self just can't handle it!!

Maybe it will cool down one of these days..or I'll just need to take up water polo for the summer months.  Sounds kinda fun!

What's Up

 Let's see:

  • it's friggin hot out
  • I have lots of homework to do and I don't wanna!
  • Wine sounds good right about now
  • or a frosty beer
  • beer and homework go quite well together.  At least the first three, then things start getting fuzzy
  • kinda like exercise. beer works well for a good 3-miler but only 2-3 beers. after that, it goes downhill
  • it's still hot out
  • crap! i forgot to let Wilson back in the house!
  • okay, I'm back. He's a little pissed but I'll give him a treat and we'll be buds again
  • i'm hungry
  • not sure who's gonna get an ass-kicking: the mailman or the garbage men for throwing the garbage cans across the driveway. had to move them before i could even pull in today.
  • can you tell i'm trying hard to put off my stats homework?
  • know why? cuz stats totally sucks
  • yep...i think i'm gonna go with wine this evening when i meet my buddy for dinner.
  • alright, time to do my assignments...boo!!
  • and yes, it's still friggin hot outside.

Sigh of Relief

Just finished both my midterms this week and now I can relax! At least until Friday when my next assignment is due. So for the rest of the night, I am not picking up any school books and am going to head straight to the couch to catch up on my shows and veg for a couple hours. Yippee!

P.S.  Stats SUCKS!

Manual Labor

Yesterday was a nice hot and sweaty day. So what were Brian and I doing on this gloriously hot day? Floating in the pool? Of course not! How silly! We were doing some manual labor in the yard.  We've slowly been getting things spruced up around here for the last couple of weeks.  Yesterday, we trimmed all the bushes, replanted our ridiculously huge palm tree by the pool into its last big pot.  If it grows out of this one, we are so screwed cuz Home Depot does not sell anything bigger and I refuse to pay for $50 for a pot.  He pressure-washed the entire patio and all furniture, the front steps, sidewalk and driveway while I did some household chores and then we started re-mulching everything in the front yard. Now we just have the backyard to finish, the bushes in front and fertilizing, buy another couple plants for the front yard and that should be done.  Next will be to repaint the doors and our part will be done.

Hopefully we can sneak in more pool time today cuz it looks like it's going to be another beautiful day.  Enjoy everyone!

Woo Hoo for 3 Day Weekend!!

I am so happy it's Friday! I was able to get out of work around 2pm, did some errands and can now enjoy a bit of the weekend. Yippee! I do have some stats homework to contend with...and lets not forget the midterm in my other pesky class....but other than that, it will hopefully be a nice and relaxing weekend with my honey and wilson. Looking forward to it. Hopefully we have some nice weather over the weekend, right now it's raining but hopefully it will pass over fairly quickly.  I want to get a least one run in this weekend and lots of pool time and catch up on some shows.  Bottom line...so happy for three days off!

Enjoy!

School Rules the Roost

Yes, I admit I've been a bad blogger this year. And I am going to blame the majority of it on school. Classes have been keeping me quite busy and this semester I think I've bitten off more than I can chew with a 300 level course and two 400 level courses so the work load is tremendous.  Blech. I will be happy to be done with this session, that's for sure! The great surprise was finding out I will not be able to finish at the end of the summer as anticipated since one of my core classes is not offered till Fall II session. Lovely. So, looks like I get to go to school till the end of the year, but at least I can space out next sesssion's classes and reduce it to two-forensic psychology here I come!!

Other than that, work has been brutal as usual and the pool is finally warm enough to float in. Hopefully I can do some of that this weekend. As for running, I haven't laced up my shoes in weeks. I hope I get back into some type of exercise routine once school settles down a bit. Alright, work is calling so I guess it's time to be productive. Happy Tuesday everyone!

Miscellaneous

Since I feel so out of the blog loop, how about some miscellaneous crap to entertain you....or at least myself:

Things I'm looking forward to this summer:
  • weekends in the pool
  • beach time!
  • getting back into kickboxing
  • did I mention floating aimlessly in the pool?
  • reading some good books in the pool (do you see a theme forming here?)
Things I'm not looking as forward to:
  • running in the oppressive heat and humidity
  • my third and final statistics class. seriously, this is friggin enough!
  • the ant population reemerging in the house
  • all my favorite shows ending and reruns beginning
  • humidity...humidity....humidity
Although this weather is a bit sticky for May, it's ready to snow in good ole MN so I guess I can't crank and whine too much.  Although sweating while pumping gas is an outrage.

Time for wine!

Saturday, April 24, 2010

Good Morning!

Wow! I can't beleive we are already starting to look at the month of May.  This is crazy...didn't the year just start a couple weeks ago?  Needless to say, I've been a busy little beaver which is why I've been absent for the past month and a half.  School has been especially draining and time-consuming but that's what you get for taking the maximum number of credits, working a full-time job and still trying to be fabulous!!

So, other than the constant school/work monotany, I have been able to get in a couple runs here and there. I ran the Gumbo Limbo Turtle 10k race a couple weeks ago and all I can say is I would much rather run another half marathon in 30 degree weather than run a 10k in swelting 80 degree weather. The heat and humidity has started to make its way back to So Flo and, although I am looking forward to catching some rays in my lovely pool, it will be difficult to force myself to get out there and continue running. I am thinking of signing up for another half marathon in Oct/Nov just to give myself the motivation to keep up with running.

The weight loss continues...thank goodness and although it is a very slow process for me, I feel slow and steady will win the race in the end and, hopefully, by taking it slow I can keep it off for good. I am in the home stretch now and can finally catch a glimpse of the finish line. Yippee!!

So, on that note, it's time to do all my household chores, laundry, etc. I will try to catch up on everyone's blogs, too. But first, I think a trip to McDonalds for an iced coffee is called for...it's been over a week and I feel the withdrawals!

Easy 4

After taking a week off from running, cuz I can, I decided to lace up the sneakers and head out for a nice 4 mile run. The weather has been perfect these last three days so it was absolutely gorgeous out there this evening, and the bonus was, of course, it still being light outside when I headed out. I did my 4 miles easily enough, although that wind was a bit rough heading towards home but I will take that over the freaking humidity that is to come real soon.

I was thinking how easy it would be to push the running to the wayside since I have no race to continue working towards. I was even contemplating signing up for the Chicago Rock n Roll Half, but it's on August 1st....in Chicago. Um, hello, it's hot in Chicago in August-I know, I lived there! Also, my bff is getting married the following month so that sounds like one too many plane tickets for this household. Unless they are super cheap....

So, I think I will keep shopping around for a race to sign up for cuz I think I need that long-term goal to keep pushing myself. Otherwise, these short runs will be all that I force myself to do out there. After all, floating in the pool is always going to win over running when summer hits.

Princess Race Pics

Right around 4am. We are smiling and haven't killed eachother yet (although there were threats).

Still Happy! Cuz we're freaking tired!!!

Hooray for Bling!

I think the Powerade got to me....

Recovery drinks

Ah...the last sip is gone

The race was a blast and I will definitely do another one. I've already been trying to figure out my next choice but there are just so many out there and I have become a spoiled Disney runner. The Food and Wine Half Marathon is in October but I have a wedding the weekend before so not sure if this will be the next one or not. If not, there's always the Princess race next year!

Homework and Laundry

That about sums up my day today. I got up around 7am this morning and proceeded to work on my first discussion assignment. Then, after a nice cup of coffee, breakfast and a little play time with Wilson, I proceeded to writing my first paper of the day -a critique on three different topics: a health-related website, television program and magazine. This was a pretty easy paper for me as I am very judgmental and have lots to say on all three topics so this baby only took me about an hour and a half. Then is was the icky theoretical review article entitled "Transcending the Angel Beast." Blech. Not my cup of tea and way too may psychological terminology to be an enjoyable read but we do what's we got to do.

So, with that done and the laundry almost completed, I've been doing a bit of fun reading outside and enjoying this absolutely beautiful day before I start on all my homework for my multitude of tests next week. Yummy.

As for the running front, I have not run since Sunday. I was sick for the past four days and, although I am feeling much better today, this annoying pain keeps me from putting on my running shoes. I am really going to have to suck it up and just push through it for the next 2 weeks and deal with it after the race. I think I need to find me a tiara to boost my running spirits. Shiny things always make a girl happy.

Under the Weather

It's been a pretty dull week since I caught a cold on Tuesday and have been going nowhere but work and back. Home has been mainly couch and tv time. Lovely. Well, at least tomorrow is Friday and hopefully another day of rest will mean I am feeling better for the weekend. Cuz I don't have time for this crap, dammit!

New Kicks

After wearing my running shoes for nearly two years now, I figured it was time for a change. So, this past weekend, I headed to my local Runner's Depot, located conveniently less than one mile from my front door, to pick out some new kicks.

The guy there was really nice and very helpful. This was my first time in an acutally running store, so the experience was completely new to me. For instance, how he had me walk back and forth to see how I walk and kept picking different shoes for me to try on to make sure I got the right fit. Once I settled on a pair, he even had me hop on the treadmill and run for a bit to see how they feel.

Some things I learned was wearing a pair of running shoes for two years is a no-no, which I knew was a bit too long but I was too lazy too go before this. Second, after watching me walk, he was very surprised I was able to run in Nike shoes at all. Good to know. Also, as you can see from the pic, I also picked up a couple pairs of socks and some gels to try out. A girl has to leave with accessories, too!

I took my new kicks out for a run last night and I could already feel the difference. They feel so much better than my other pair and I'm glad I got them 3 weeks before the race so I can break them in a bit, too.

In related news, I went back to the foot doctor again since the cortisone shot didn't do much and it appears I have 4 options: get another shot (sometimes it takes 2 or 3 to feel a difference); get orthotics, which are very pricey; suck it up; or get surgery if pain is unbearable. Think I'll suck it up-then get another shot-then orthotics-then surgery. Nice to know there is a plan.

I Love Saturdays

Aren't Saturdays divine? Knowing you aren't at work now and don't have to be back tomorrow either makes Saturdays the best friggin day of the week. Plus, working for a banking corporation means I get a bonus day off on Monday for President's Day. Hell yeah!!

To start the day off, I got up just before 7am and finished cramming for my test before taking it around 9am. Done with that. The only homework I have left for this weekend is a literature review article on college drinking. Yeah, not really sweating too much over that puppy. Maybe I should have a cocktail while writing it to really enhance my literary skills.

The laundry is almost finished. The house has been straightened up and the floors cleaned. A late lunch of scrumptious tator tot hotdish is cooking in the oven...the yummy smell wafting throughout the house on this chilly afternoon. Chilly days like this are greatly appreciated when you live in a sweaty state like Florida. Did anyone see The Office on Thursday...where Michael referred to Florida as a colorful, unlawful swamp? I laughed my ass off on that one.

As for this afternoon/evening, I really want to get out there for a run. I'd like to do at least 4 miles today and save my big run for tomorrow or Monday. I am also thinking of heading to Running Depot this weekend and getting a new pair of kicks cuz I do think my current pair have reached their running limits.

Overall, not a super exciting day but one jam-packed with mini activities to keep me out of trouble. For now...

Night Off

I really did want to run tonight but the stupid foot is hurting quite a bit so I decided to take the night off and just chill. So, Brian and I went out for dinner after work where I had a nice glass of wine with my meal, and then we came home whereby I jumped into my jammies and hit the books for my test later this week.

So, between reading, watching Criminal Minds and keeping my BFF off the ledge with wedding plans, it's been a busy night off. I think I will do a bit more reading and hit the sack. I would love to get up at 5am tomorrow and get in a nice, chilly run....hmmm, maybe if I try really hard to not hit the snooze button, I can accomplish this. We shall see.

On another note, anyone else get a psycho dog when the weather chills? Wilson is a friggin fruit loop this evening. He has been running around the house like a madman and tore all his toys out of his toy box and dragged them all over before settling down with a bone. Now he's trying to destroy his favorite monkey. What a reej!

Nice Rainy Run

Although the weather was kind of icky this evening, there are only 25 running days till race day so I cannot be picky. Also, since a couple of my fellow runners are dealing with a new foot of snow, I should just shut up and not speak one word about some pesky raindrops.

On that note, after having a nice spagetti and reading about pain in my psych book (how ironic), I got my running gear on and went out for a 3 miler. The first two miles were just fine...it was sprinkling a bit but was hardly noticeable. Just after the 2 mile mark, the sky opened up a can of whoop ass on me and it started raining pretty damn good. Although I thought this would dampen my style (ha!), the rain actually felt pretty nice and it kept pushing me to hurry up and finish. I don't care about being wet but I don't want to worry about my stupid iPod crapping out on me so I was holding it close to me like it was some fragile bird I saved from a tree. So, overall I had a nice run and, true to form, the rain pretty much stopped once I got home so I grabbed Wilson and took him for a nice power walk.

Oh yeah, and I lost my headband while running. I looked for it when I walked Wilson but no dice. Thank goodness I have about 50 other ones to choose from.

Got me some bangs

I went in for a trim and came out with some bangs. Good times.

Ugh...

Alright, so there's only 30 days left till the big princess race. And I just took a week off from running due to my stupid, stubborn foot. So that means I have to learn to run really far in a month. Crap! So what am I gonna do???

Suck it up and JUST RUN.

Doctor's Verdict

Today was doctor visit day and I was a bit nervous about what he would find. After moving things around and asking me questions, he states I am bone-on-bone with respect to the joint in my big toe and have even started to develop some arthritis there because of it. He had me walk and stand on tip-toes and also concluded my arches have collapsed, which puts a lot of extra pressure on the big toe area and will cause the shooting pains I've been feeling. So, he gave me a shot of cortisone to reduce the pain and I go back in two weeks for a follow-up appt. Hopefully this works and I can make it through the race cuz otherwise that's a lot of scrilla down the drain.

Yeah right, I'd run anyway just because that's how I roll. But I still hope this works.

He told me to take the night off from running so I'm gonna relax and do some schoolwork. I may hula hoop and take Wilson for a walk too. That's not too strenuous. It's a bit sore from the shot so hopefully it feels better tomorrow and I can get back out there. Good times!

Easy 3

After taking Sunday and Monday off from running, ( I had to recover from the Vikings' loss on Sunday), I headed out tonight for a nice 3 mile run. It was a pretty easy one, too. We had a nice little cold front come through last night and the temp was in the low 60s when I headed out there. I breathe so much easier without all the heat and humidity-this is when I actually enjoy running..when you can breathe easy, your'e not sweating buckets and my Garmin doesn't fog up from the humidity. So, I got that out of the way and now I'm pretending to study for my test while watching tv and enjoying a yummy Landshark beer. Good times.

Tomorrow, my plan goes as follows:

work
doctor
study
run
study/homework

No no people, don't be envious. You too can have this riveting lifestyle. Geez, thank goodness for the beer.

I Remember....

  • putting my running shoes on with dread
  • getting excited when I could run a half mile without stopping
  • the crazy shin splints
  • running my first mile without stopping
  • when I signed up for my first 5K and thought it couldn't be done
  • running my first 5K in about 45 minutes and being proud of myself for finishing
  • continuing to run for the enjoyment of it as opposed to having a race to train for
  • signing up for the Race for Taste 10K
  • being absolutely terrified and thinking it was not at all possible
  • building up mileage
  • stretching more
  • running with better posture
  • being at Disney for the 10K...the adreneline rush, the people, fireworks and music
  • finishing the 10K and realizing it's all mind over matter
  • continuing to run
  • signing up for the Princess Half Marathon
  • freaking out about it
  • ....still freaking out about it
  • but confident it can be done
I went out for just a quick two mile run cuz my freaking foot is hurting quite a bit today and I started thinking about that very thought...I'm just going out for a quick 2 mile run. When did that happen? Then I started replaying my entire running experience, which began in 2008. It's been quite a journey and I never would have thought that I would have come to enjoy running so much and actually look forward to it. Hopefully, I can continue to build up my mileage and enjoy even more races down the road. Good times.

An Easy 4

After 12 days of non-running, I was a little apprehensive about getting out there again. Mainly, I figured it would be a bad running session as that seems to be my pattern when I take so much time off. This was so not the case tonight. I think it was a combination of no exercise for over a week and the weather being absolutely perfect that I started and ended my run with a bang. I had originally intended to do only 3 miles, but since they went so smoothly, I kept going for another mile before heading home for the night.

So, that's an easy four miles under my belt for today. If the weather could stay like this every day, I would have no trouble getting my mileage up and would feel more confident about the race. As it is now, there's only 47 days to go and I am so not ready! I hope I can put in some serious miles in the next month so I feel better about this race. Think I'm gonna have to go shopping for my tiara for a dose of good luck!

Back Again

After a lovely 10 days off, 5 of which were spent cruising the Caribbean, I am back and soooo not ready to jump into the reality of my routine again. All I can say to that is, eewwww.

The cruise was freaking awesome people. If you haven't been on one, it is a great way to enjoy a vacation. All you can drink and nowhere to drive. Great bars, entertainment, shore excursions, the works...and having a balcony room is the only way to travel. I will never do an inside room again. Lots of good times. I will give greater details later this week.

Now it's back to the grind. The laundry is done, the dog has been walked and is a happy little mo-fo and I am even ready to get back into my running routine tomorrow, although I'm sure having a week off will have a negative effect on my mileage accrual at least for this week, but totally worth it. So, I think I will get myself ready for bed and the upcoming return to icky old work tomorrow. Yay.

P.S. Way to kick some serious ass against the Cowboys, my beloved Vikings!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to rub that into my boss tomorrow. Wonder if I can get away with wearing my jersey...

Busy Busy

Since the weather was, um...crappy, I decided to be productive in the house instead. I think I got up around 7:30 this morning, had a cup of coffee and caught up on some of my saved Law & Order episodes I'd been putting off. Then I hit the books and got my assignments done for this week, which left me the afternoon to do laundry and some cleaning before my parents arrive tomorrow. I'm not going to do my usual crazy cleaning since they will only be spending about 12 hours total in the house while the rest of the time we will be cruising the Caribbean!!

And, since the crappy weather did not let up all day, I decided to do one of my exercise tapes, which was okay but I was really looking forward to my long run today. I contemplated more than once just sucking it up and getting out there but, with temps in the high 30s and a cold rain, all I need is to get sick before or during the cruise. Not worth the risk. So, hopefully tomorrow will be better weather and I can get out there for a nice, long run.

Now it's time for dinner and more football. Can't decide if I want the Cowboys or Eagles to win. I guess whichever team will lose against the Vikes can win this game :)

My Little Morgan

Here's my sweet little niece at her little photo shoot she had at 6 months old. She's wearing a little pink tutu and is just cute as a button! My sis told me she started crawling now, too. She's getting to be such a big girl already. Can't wait to see her again!

Stressin Out

This has not been a real pleasant week thus far. My stress levels feel like they are through the roof, which means all I want to do is climb into bed, hide under the covers and watch a good movie. But, that would not solve a damn thing I guess I will just have to deal with it all. I think it a culmination of too much stuff going on. For instance: The sink is full of dishes begging to be washed. I just spent a ridiculous sum of money for 3 books for school. My financial aid is still pending so I'm freaking out that I may end up washing dishes in the cafeteria to cover tuition. My parents arrive this weekend and I need to deep clean the house (even though we will barely be here at all). We leave for the cruise on Monday and I don't know what to pack, what to wear, blah, blah, blah... you get the point.

So, what I think I will do is calm myself down off the ledge and go into the kitchen and wash those dishes. Then call a friend for a little chat and end the evening reading a couple of chapters in one of my lovely school books. Good times.

2010 Goals

I already completed my first goal I had for 2010. Do not start any goal/resolution on Jan 1st. It just sets a girl up for failure, especially after that entire bottle of champagne that was consumed by yours truly and the bedtime of 2am?...3am?... So, needless to say, yesterday was just a nice, relaxing day of watching a Bugs Bunny marathon (yes, I am forever 10 years old), playing Wii games and enjoying Brian's awesome steak/lobster/shrimp scampi dinner, which is a New Year's tradition in his family and one we have continued ourselves.

So, with a full and happy stomach and refreshed and renewed attitude, I am ready to start in on my goals for 2010.

Fitness
  1. Finish the half marathon race in March. I have no desire to meet a certain time goal. My goal here is merely to finish the race early enough to get my shiny medal. That will make me happy.
  2. Run 2-3 more races this year, whether they be 5Ks or 10Ks
  3. Try a trapeze class
  4. Do the 100 push-up challenge and make it all the way to the end.
  5. Reach my weight loss goal.

Personal
  1. Experience more. There is so much out there to enjoy in life and I want to experience it all! So, I want to try and get out there and see/do more this year; whether it be right here in So Flo or wherever my travels take me.
  2. Recycle more. We do a pretty good job so far, but there is always room for improvement.
  3. Excel in my studies and become the school nerd I remember myself to be. Eyes on the prize!
  4. Be there for my niece's 1st birthday in May.
  5. Spend time with family and friends.
Here's hoping for a wonderful and productive 2010!!!
