Homework and Laundry

That about sums up my day today. I got up around 7am this morning and proceeded to work on my first discussion assignment. Then, after a nice cup of coffee, breakfast and a little play time with Wilson, I proceeded to writing my first paper of the day -a critique on three different topics: a health-related website, television program and magazine. This was a pretty easy paper for me as I am very judgmental and have lots to say on all three topics so this baby only took me about an hour and a half. Then is was the icky theoretical review article entitled "Transcending the Angel Beast." Blech. Not my cup of tea and way too may psychological terminology to be an enjoyable read but we do what's we got to do.

So, with that done and the laundry almost completed, I've been doing a bit of fun reading outside and enjoying this absolutely beautiful day before I start on all my homework for my multitude of tests next week. Yummy.

As for the running front, I have not run since Sunday. I was sick for the past four days and, although I am feeling much better today, this annoying pain keeps me from putting on my running shoes. I am really going to have to suck it up and just push through it for the next 2 weeks and deal with it after the race. I think I need to find me a tiara to boost my running spirits. Shiny things always make a girl happy.

Under the Weather

It's been a pretty dull week since I caught a cold on Tuesday and have been going nowhere but work and back. Home has been mainly couch and tv time. Lovely. Well, at least tomorrow is Friday and hopefully another day of rest will mean I am feeling better for the weekend. Cuz I don't have time for this crap, dammit!

New Kicks

After wearing my running shoes for nearly two years now, I figured it was time for a change. So, this past weekend, I headed to my local Runner's Depot, located conveniently less than one mile from my front door, to pick out some new kicks.

The guy there was really nice and very helpful. This was my first time in an acutally running store, so the experience was completely new to me. For instance, how he had me walk back and forth to see how I walk and kept picking different shoes for me to try on to make sure I got the right fit. Once I settled on a pair, he even had me hop on the treadmill and run for a bit to see how they feel.

Some things I learned was wearing a pair of running shoes for two years is a no-no, which I knew was a bit too long but I was too lazy too go before this. Second, after watching me walk, he was very surprised I was able to run in Nike shoes at all. Good to know. Also, as you can see from the pic, I also picked up a couple pairs of socks and some gels to try out. A girl has to leave with accessories, too!

I took my new kicks out for a run last night and I could already feel the difference. They feel so much better than my other pair and I'm glad I got them 3 weeks before the race so I can break them in a bit, too.

In related news, I went back to the foot doctor again since the cortisone shot didn't do much and it appears I have 4 options: get another shot (sometimes it takes 2 or 3 to feel a difference); get orthotics, which are very pricey; suck it up; or get surgery if pain is unbearable. Think I'll suck it up-then get another shot-then orthotics-then surgery. Nice to know there is a plan.

I Love Saturdays

Aren't Saturdays divine? Knowing you aren't at work now and don't have to be back tomorrow either makes Saturdays the best friggin day of the week. Plus, working for a banking corporation means I get a bonus day off on Monday for President's Day. Hell yeah!!

To start the day off, I got up just before 7am and finished cramming for my test before taking it around 9am. Done with that. The only homework I have left for this weekend is a literature review article on college drinking. Yeah, not really sweating too much over that puppy. Maybe I should have a cocktail while writing it to really enhance my literary skills.

The laundry is almost finished. The house has been straightened up and the floors cleaned. A late lunch of scrumptious tator tot hotdish is cooking in the oven...the yummy smell wafting throughout the house on this chilly afternoon. Chilly days like this are greatly appreciated when you live in a sweaty state like Florida. Did anyone see The Office on Thursday...where Michael referred to Florida as a colorful, unlawful swamp? I laughed my ass off on that one.

As for this afternoon/evening, I really want to get out there for a run. I'd like to do at least 4 miles today and save my big run for tomorrow or Monday. I am also thinking of heading to Running Depot this weekend and getting a new pair of kicks cuz I do think my current pair have reached their running limits.

Overall, not a super exciting day but one jam-packed with mini activities to keep me out of trouble. For now...

Night Off

I really did want to run tonight but the stupid foot is hurting quite a bit so I decided to take the night off and just chill. So, Brian and I went out for dinner after work where I had a nice glass of wine with my meal, and then we came home whereby I jumped into my jammies and hit the books for my test later this week.

So, between reading, watching Criminal Minds and keeping my BFF off the ledge with wedding plans, it's been a busy night off. I think I will do a bit more reading and hit the sack. I would love to get up at 5am tomorrow and get in a nice, chilly run....hmmm, maybe if I try really hard to not hit the snooze button, I can accomplish this. We shall see.

On another note, anyone else get a psycho dog when the weather chills? Wilson is a friggin fruit loop this evening. He has been running around the house like a madman and tore all his toys out of his toy box and dragged them all over before settling down with a bone. Now he's trying to destroy his favorite monkey. What a reej!

Nice Rainy Run

Although the weather was kind of icky this evening, there are only 25 running days till race day so I cannot be picky. Also, since a couple of my fellow runners are dealing with a new foot of snow, I should just shut up and not speak one word about some pesky raindrops.

On that note, after having a nice spagetti and reading about pain in my psych book (how ironic), I got my running gear on and went out for a 3 miler. The first two miles were just fine...it was sprinkling a bit but was hardly noticeable. Just after the 2 mile mark, the sky opened up a can of whoop ass on me and it started raining pretty damn good. Although I thought this would dampen my style (ha!), the rain actually felt pretty nice and it kept pushing me to hurry up and finish. I don't care about being wet but I don't want to worry about my stupid iPod crapping out on me so I was holding it close to me like it was some fragile bird I saved from a tree. So, overall I had a nice run and, true to form, the rain pretty much stopped once I got home so I grabbed Wilson and took him for a nice power walk.

Oh yeah, and I lost my headband while running. I looked for it when I walked Wilson but no dice. Thank goodness I have about 50 other ones to choose from.

I went in for a trim and came out with some bangs. Good times.

Ugh...

Alright, so there's only 30 days left till the big princess race. And I just took a week off from running due to my stupid, stubborn foot. So that means I have to learn to run really far in a month. Crap! So what am I gonna do???

Suck it up and JUST RUN.
